Air tanks are the tanks used to prevent the pressure fluctuation at the compressor outlet, to store the required amount of air in order to meet the sudden air outputs exceeding the compressor capacity.

The air tank capacity is determined by the compressor capacity and the shape of the air demand. The capacity of the air tank in liters can be selected from 6 to 10 times the capacity of the screw or reciprocating compressor in liters/second. Another benefit of the air tank is; It facilitates the condensation of the water particles in the air and the discharge of the condensed water. As a result of the condensation of moisture, the water collected at the bottom of the air tank is discharged out of the system by means of discharge devices.

The air tank should be placed in the coldest place if possible. If the ambient air is excessively humid, the air tank must be painted with a special paint.

There should be safety valve, manometer, inlet manhole, discharge sleeve/flange and product label on the air tank. The air tank should be installed in the compressed air plant in such a way that it can reach and inspect the entire body of the tank.
